It is a perfect world. Or so they say. You have everything you could wish for; there is no
violence; babies are made in laboratories; your daily dose of soma keeps depression away; you can watch “Feelie” to stimulate your senses. Verily, you live in a manmade heaven. So what ifthe World Controllers discourage critical thinking and individual action? It is for your own good.
But Bernard Marx is not happy in this blissful ambience. Old imperfect life still exists in some Savage Reservations. Marx visits one of them. Can he find a cure for his
distress? Huxley’s prophetic Brave New World needs no introduction. Published in 1932, it hasnot only awe-inspired the readers in the 20 th century but continues to do so even today when ourworld is fast becoming the dystopia Huxley had envisioned.

Aldous Huxley was a renowned English writer, poet, playwright and philosopher. He was born in Surrey,England on 26 July 1894. Huxley published over 50 books during his lifetime — all to critical acclaim. Brave New World, a dystopian novel, is considered to be his best fictional work. Similarly, The Doors of Perception is regarded his finest non-fictional writing. Huxley spent last 25 years of his life in the USA. His life took a new turn there when he joined the Vedanta Society of Southern California, a spiritual organization. He, then,wrote extensively on spiritual topics too. He died of laryngeal cancer in the USA on 22 November 1963.
