
When Earnshaw adopted the dark-skinned foundling Heathcliff, he could have scuttled past him in the street if he had even the dimmest vision of the darkness inside him. Anyhow, he was saved by luck to see its outpour. His children were not so fortunate though. They had to suffer-beyond measure.

A member of the famous English literary trio of Bronte sisters, Emily Jane Bronte (1818-1848) wrote an only novel Wuthering Heights which stands out as one of the most enduring literary works in history. She was also a fine poet. She loved nature and animals. However, she led an overall sedentary life, her closest relationship being with Anne, her younger sister. She died of tuberculosis when she was only 30.
